One word comes to mind when I see Tony’s black s4 trailing behind my car. Sinister. The s4 cuts through the city streets on its way to our spots with the sleekness of a great white, every now and then bearing its row of teeth just to let you know it could really ruin your day. Thats how it is when Tony gives just a bit of gas and the s4 lets out a guttural roar to let you know that under its hood it houses a 4.2l v8. At any given moment, paired with the awd system, without the slightest chirp, this car could disappear.
When I first met Tony, he was sporting a B7 A4 with an S4 conversion which was equally clean. Which is why it came as a surprise to me when I found out that he was planning on trading the car away.
However, when I saw what he had traded it for I was grinning ear to ear. I knew I had to see it in person, so I gave Tony a call and waited for him to arrive. I heard the exhaust first. The beautiful note of the v8 reminded me that the Hondas and other imports I liked so much most likely could never sound like that. As he pulled up, I was reminded of why I enjoyed Audis so much. The sleekness of the body and sophistication of the interior are just different from what im used to seeing on some of the cars I liked and owned. For me, im a big gauge cluster person, its what I spend the majority of the time looking at (besides the road), and I absolutely love the cluster on the s4. I without a doubt, love the B7 body style, much more than the B5 and B6, equally as much as the B8.
Ive always had a soft spot for European cars but my heart lies with Japanese automobiles. However thats not to say id never own one. Heck, I used to own an E90 335i for a bit before I decided to get rid of it in order to evade the HPFP disease they seemed to be plagued with. But I digress. Tony’s s4 was a beautiful blank canvas ready to be painted on, and while I waited for the snow to melt away, Tony painted.
With the addition of beautiful Rohana wheels and some wrapping, Tony’s car literally looked night and day. The wheel size and offset provide just the right amount of poke to add to the cars already aggressive stance. The color finished off the look to give it the sinister appearance it has today. To be honest, im not sure the car would give off the same impression with any other wheel color, but thats up to the eye of the beholder.
What I do know now is that the car has the looks to match the exhaust note and the cojones to keep up with modded B5S4s. This car was most certainly a joy to shoot and to hear.
I look forward to seeing what the future plans for this car is. The wicked combination of wrapping , wheels, stance, and DTM pieces, make me believe that the exterior may be done for a bit, but who knows. What I do know is that this car will be back in front of my lens again sooner or later.
